This morning we connected with US 24 a few miles from our motel and continued on to Mt. Sterling, an old Midwest town, where we had breakfast at Renee's Place. Back on 24 for a few miles we turned southeast on State Road 125, which angles down into Springfield, the capital of Illinois. Once through Springfield (the downtown was deserted on a Sunday) we rode on I-72/US 36 for a half hour or so into Decatur, where US 36 splits off.
I promised Carol that she would see lots of corn, and rural Illinois did not disappoint. I suspect most of  the corn is used for ethanol fuel.

That's a cornfield, in case you wondered

And that's where the corn is stored before it becomes ethanol
We continued on 36 and crossed the border into Indiana and stopped in Rockville for lunch. The town has a central square with brick streets around it, and we found the Jailhouse Cafe, which had good coffee and salads and sandwiches.

Back on 36 we immediately passed a restaurant/saloon, which had at least 50 Harleys parked around it. Outside of town we continued to see many Harleys riding west towards Rockville - probably a club poker run.

Indiana is not all corn fields
US 36 was pleasant enough with rather slow 55 mph limit. The traffic became  heavier as we neared Indianapolis - Carol pointed out that it was probably people returning home from a holiday weekend. Rather than riding through Indianapolis as I'd planned, we followed the US 36 directions onto I-465, a ring road that goes around the city. US 36 splits off on the east side, and we kept on it to Anderson, Indiana, where Carol splurged on a Best Western Plus - living large!
